Good mid-sized hotel in Marrakech with true Moroccan design and charm.
ABOUT
Designed by the legendary Charles Boccara (see also Les Deux Tours), Tichka was greeted with local delight for its tongue-in-cheek take on trad Moroccan architecture when it opened in 1986. It still looks striking and opulent today, especially in the high atrium reception area and the crimson-coloured, copper-ceilinged bar. Great value for money, the 130-room hotel sits in the ‘new town’: just a ten-minute petit taxi ride from the famous souks and main square, and within stone-throwing distance of the lush Majorelle Gardens.
ROOMS
Recently partly renovated, all the rooms are beautifully decorated and air-conditioned. Most have balconies overlooking the pool or gardens, plus 32-inch LCD satellite TVs. Many interconnect, making them ideal for families. Skip the suites as they overlook the car park and don’t merit the extra cost.
FACILITIES
Tichka’s two restaurants delight eyes as well as palates: Johara offers Moroccan dishes amid yellow-blue stripes, while the international menu at Ambar is served under palm-tree columns. Much more restrained, the hammam (steam bath) provides various gommage rituals plus massage and beauty treatments. There is also a solarium, small business centre, Wi-Fi, tennis court and one of the prettiest pools in town, set in a lovely garden and accompanied by a poolside grill. Speaking of al fresco eating, dinner and buffet lunches can be taken on a garden terrace.
MORE INFO
If conversation’s a struggle, grab some reading matter: there’s a news-stand at the hotel’s entrance.
The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
Our Hotel was in a fabulous location so we could enjoy some peace as well as being only a short ride from the action. We were warned that it was a little tired in places. We agree, but it did not put us off our enjoyment and since we had tried to travel on a budget it was perfect for us. Having a chance to relax around the pool with a G & T with very polite waiter service was unexpected and a delight. The Pool was georgous and although unheated was lovely and refreshing for my early morning dips on our mostly +28 degrees days. The food, especially the buffets and breakfast were plentiful and delicious. Although we did not book half board, we were able to negotiate a discounted rate for lunch when we wanted. Our only bugbear was the safe which seemed to have a random life of its own, but we soon managed to master it even though it meant we had to start to leave our room 5 minutes early in order to get it to lock!
