Marrakesh gardens and parks are just as important to the city as its medieval monuments and palaces. The city inspires artists, designers and scholars thanks to its history, culture and environment. We invite you to discover this fascinating side of our glamorous city.
Our guide will start by inviting you to visit the private museum created and owned by Birt Flint, a Dutch anthropologist who displays his collection of Berber and sub-Saharan artefacts and antiques in this beautiful Moorish home.
We walk on to Dar Si Said museum (closed on Tuesdays) and discover this aristocratic 19th century home. This is the best introduction to Marrakech's traditional arts and what the skillful artisans were capable of creating in the past and also what they managed to pass on to the following generations.
Take your time in the famous gardens created by the orientalist painter Jacques Majorelle. The Majorelle Gardens house a collection of plants from the four corners of the world which flourish amidst elegant ornamental ponds and an Art Deco villa of which the special shade of bold cobalt blue is named after the artist, Majorelle blue. The garden hosts more than 15 bird species that are endemic to North Africa and has an amazing collection of cacti. Since 1980 the garden has been owned by Yves Saint-Laurent.
There is a nice terraced restaurant inside the gardens that serves snacks and light meals where you may want to stop and have lunch.
We will take you to visit the beautifully designed Berber museum displaying Yves Saint Laurent's personal collection of Berber antiques. Here you can learn some fascinating facts about the Berbers of Morocco and admire this marvellous treasure of local antiques that Yves Saint Laurent owned.
We will then drive through the luxuriant palm groves of Marrakech and stop to visit the private museum of the Palmeraie and its well designed gardens created by the former director and designer of the Yves Saint Laurent gardens in Marrakech, Mr. Ben Chabane who is a garden designer, expert botanist and perfume maker. We will invite you to see his private art gallery to discover the work of some contemporary Moroccan modern artists.
