Stunning riad with lovely rooms in Fes.
ABOUT: Just inside the famous Fes medina’s walls, the ornate ‘House of the Pomegranate’ offers a distinctly laid-back vibe. The atmosphere aims to be more home, less hotel via various sprawl-suitable areas including cosy salons, a library and a roof terrace. Foodies will rejoice: American co-owner Jennifer is a trained Cordon Bleu chef.
ROOMS: Just five suites, each spacious, each the original work of Fassi artisans – with mosaic-tiled floors, cedarwood ceilings and stained-glass windows – have been carefully restored. Foremost is the first-floor Yasmina Suite with private balcony, four-poster bed, three-corner tub and vast window arches; undoubtedly one of the finest rooms in Fes. Note there are no TVs or phones, out of respect for the traditional, tranquil medina way of life.
FACILITIES: The Euro-Arab menu is bespoke: Jennifer discusses dinner with guests in the morning and the agreed-upon wonders are served on the roof terrace that evening. Strewn with leather pouffes, this suntrap boasts a raised crow’s nest for extra-special views. Downstairs, a library, games table and DVD salon provide additional distraction.
EXTRA INFO: Jennifer buys her ingredients from the markets, and is happy for guests to join her, with a kitchen class to follow. Other medina tours are available, as are excursions to nearby historical sites.
The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
The real star of the place though is Mohammed, 'Simo'. The decor is stunning, the view from the roof terrace good but the condensation water drips onto diners below from the roof canopy avoidable. With the canopy heater malfunctioning the log fire was most welcome. Taxis and barrow boys were all arranged effortlessly.

Thank you for recommending the Yasmina Suite at the Dar Roumana which was gorgeous. I really enjoyed the hospitality there although I was glad that one of the nights was when the restaurant was closed so I was served local food rather than the delicious but more European fare in the main restaurant. Breakfast on the terrace was very special. The Clock cooking school was fun - watching the chicken which we subsequently cooked being weighed alive, then summarily dispatched and plucked made for probably the freshest meal I have ever eaten. The tasting tour was not for the feint-hearted - at least I didn't have to have the eyeball with the sheep's head; and there was plenty of chili sauce on the spleen to take the taste away........ I demurred in the snail souk however. Delightful guide and a great way to explore the medina in the evening when the atmosphere was quite different.
The tour to Meknes, M. Idriss and Voloubilis was all fine. Voloubilis is not the most spectacular Roman site I've been to - but then Jerash in Jordan is hard to beat. It was a great day.

Dar Roumana was just perfect, as were Vanessa her partner and all her staff, esp Mohammed.
The room, (delightful) was immaculate as was the delicious food.
So, as I hope you can tell, I/we were more than pleased we booked through you.

Dar Roumana an absolute delight and an excellent guide was arranged on two occasions which greatly enhanced our visit to the Medina. The view from the roof terrace was magical.
