Overlooking the beautiful lagoon of Oualidia on the Atlantic coast, Villa La Diouana is the perfect place to unwind.
To visit Oualidia, on the western edge of Morocco, is to discover one of the most spectacular marine habitats in the world. Mile after mile of windswept coastline give way to a sheltered lagoon which the sea enters through two breaches in the cliffs. At one end of the lagoon, a 17th century kasbah and a ruined royal summer palace overlook a wide sandy beach. At the other end, a six-mile long tidal estuary curls away into a series of marshes and wetlands, home to egrets, herons, flamingos and oyster-catchers.
Here, you can walk along hillsides carpeted with poppies, asphodels and marigolds. Fish for bream and sea bass off the clifftops while Atlantic rollers crash beneath you. Or, swim in the shallow waters of the lagoon and relax over oysters and crab at a water-side restaurant.
Just five minutes from the beach, the Villa La Diouana allows you to enjoy this enchanting environment in total comfort.
The villa
La Diouana is a luxurious 30s villa with panoramic ocean views. Situated on a hill near the old kasbah, La Diouana has a total of five bedrooms, three in the main villa and two in a separate cottage and apartment.
The villa is a mixture of traditional and contemporary Moroccan design with moucharrabieh woodwork and tadelakt (polished plaster) floors. There are three en-suite bedrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, a library with WiFi and a sitting room with wood-burning stove, stereo, LCD screen & DVD. The villa has a patio and roof terrace and is surrounded by a 25,000 sq ft garden of palm trees, pine, mimosa, oleander, bougainvillea and many other shrubs and flowers. The patio leads down to a new infinity edge swimming pool and children's pool.
Three hours from Marrakech, the pace at La Diouana is slow and unhurried. By day you can snooze in a hammock or sunbathe by the pool, gazing down at the lagoon far below. At night-time you can luxuriate in a tadelakt bathtub and gaze up at the stars, the only sounds the distant crash of waves and the rustle of wind in the pine trees.
The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
