A 26-room guesthouse set in the hills above Essaouira with pool and gardens
ABOUT: Ringed by argan trees, this beautiful enclave in the hills above Essaouira has two pools, two restaurants, a hammam and walled botanical gardens. Rustic and spacious, the hotel suits couples and families equally well. Style-wise, think North African exuberance meets shabby chic: zellige tiles, pierced metalwork and shaggy Berber rugs. Essaouira’s just ten minutes away, and transfers can be arranged.
ROOMS: Ranging in size and style, the air-conditioned rooms and suites are split between the main building and the grounds, with various family options available. Simple Relax Rooms have queen beds and small terrace, while the domed Royal Suite has two bedrooms, terraces and a large lounge with a fireplace. Also available are three private houses, with their own cook, private pool and landscaped garden. All quarters have chunky wooden doors, hanging African masks and mini hammam kits.
FACILITIES: The adults-only infinity pool is heated and surrounded by wrought-iron daybeds. Around the house’s opposite side, the family-friendly pool includes a shallow area. Both indoor restaurants serve North African cuisine with French influences: Le Ksar has full-length windows looking over the river valley, while La Table des Douars is an intimate adults-only affair. There’s also a hammam and spa, a pétanque pitch, a lounge, a library and cocktails each night on the terrace.
EXTRA INFO: The Golf de Mogador course is just five minutes away, while, for walkers, those sprawling gardens provide access to the surrounding country.
The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
